MVHR is excited to be offering kids the opportunity to spend summer days with horses, with a variety of curricula to choose from. Day camps with transportation from Yampa will take place on the following days in 2026:
Kids can sign up for one day or multiple days in a row, or spread days throughout the summer (except Equine Explorers which is a 4 day camp). Kids do not need prior horse experience to participate. For the above specific dates, MVHR will provide transportation from South Routt Elementary School in Yampa.
MVHR will be hosting additional Summer Day Camps with transportation from Wolcott, which are open to everyone but would require the camper to be brought to the ranch if attending from Routt County. If you are interested in these other days CLICK HERE.
Partial & Full scholarships are available for all day camps, and are made possible this year by Vail Health! If you need scholarship funding in order for your child to be able to attend Mountain Valley Horse Rescue Day Camps, please CLICK HERE for our scholarship application. Please complete the application prior to registering.
Kids learn all about horses and what it means to care for them through service & grooming. We learn to halter & lead a horse, work on confidence, teamwork & perseverance. The day includes horse crafts and games. This camp is the perfect introduction to horses and a fun day spent outside at the ranch. Horse Heroes Day Camp is for ages 6 and up (starting first grade Fall 2026) Horse Heroes Day Camp costs $60 per day per child and includes transportation.
We do a special groom on the horses until they sparkle & shine (there might be some glitter and ribbons involved!) Get to know the horses through service & grooming and lots of hands on time with the horses. We finish with a parade & a glamour horse craft. Glamour camp is for ages 6 and up (starting first grade Fall 2026) and perfect for those wanting to love on & cuddle horses, plus spend a fun day outside at the ranch. Horse Glamour Day Camp costs $70 per day per child and includes transportation.
Advance your horse skills and learn groundwork & liberty with horses. Campers develop communication and leadership skills as they work with the horses, reading body language of the horses as well as their own, learning how to communicate effectively first by watching and listening to the quiet communication of the horses. We also learn about groundwork and get introduced to liberty work with the horse. H.O.P.E. Day Camp is for ages 6 and up (some reading and writing are part of this camp) and costs $85 per day per child and includes transportation.
Our H.O.P.E. acronym stands for Heart, Opportunity, Perseverance, and Empathy. MVHR’s HOPE curriculum will help campers develop communication and leadership techniques as they work with the horses. This program includes the development of horsemanship skills through the use of Groundwork (where the horses are asked to trust and follow campers through challenging situations or obstacles while on a lead); Liberty (where campers learn to be trustworthy, compassionate leaders, in this rotation horses have the opportunity to leave if they feel too much pressure as they are not on lead rope); and Stewardship & Service (a chance for campers to invest in the basic needs of the horses).
Equine Explorer Camp is an educational four day camp offering even more hands-on horse time. Campers will learn about safety and confidence around the horses through grooming, leading, learning groundwork & liberty. We cover horse body language, anatomy, nutrition, basic horse terminology and tools. During camp, kids will learn through hands-on activities and worksheets which will be provided to them in their “equine explorers journal”.
Each day session will build on one another with extensive horse time and a different educational component on a variety of horse topics. This camp is hosted July 13 through 16, 2026 and is available for ages 8 and up (with ability to read & write). Cost is $275 per child for four day camp, and includes transportation from Yampa each day. This camp is a smaller group, so space will be limited!
All camps run from 9am to 2:30pm. To get to the ranch in time we pick up in Yampa at 8:15am and we drop the kids back off at 3:15pm; at South Routt Elementary School, 448 Main St. Yampa, CO 80483. Look for the white van with the MVHR logo. Marissa Martindale, our program coordinator, will be your driver! For campers providing their own transportation, please plan to arrive at the Ranch by 8:50am, and pick up campers at the ranch no later then 2:40pm.
Kids should bring lunch, two snacks, an extra set of clothes, sunscreen & a hat. We require campers to wear closed toed boots or shoes and long pants.
