We are excited to introduce the NEW Helping Hands Workshop program for 2026! Each session will cover a different aspect of owning and being around horses led and taught by Marissa Martindale, our Program Coordinator. Marissa brings a lifetime of horse experience to the table and a passion to share her knowledge with others.

These workshops are a great opportunity to learn more about the horse in a hands-on environment! This spring we will be focusing on the broader topics of Basic Horse First Aid, Nutrition, Horse Behavior & Body Language, as well as Basic Horsemanship Skills including Groundwork & Liberty Technics. Participants are encouraged to participate in all 4 sessions, as some of the material overlaps and is applicable in many of the sessions. A package deal has been put together for those who can attend all four workshops. If you cannot attend all of them, sign up for the sessions that interest you or work for your schedule! The goal of this program is to provide a small and welcoming environment for the public to gain confidence and knowledge of horses.

When: 4 Saturdays ~ February 28th, March 14th, March 28th, and April 4th

The series of 4 sessions will be offered every other week, with the exception of the last two sessions that will be back to back Saturdays due to other scheduled events.

Feb. 28th - Basic Horse First Aid Mar. 14th - Nutrition

Mar. 28th - Horse Behavior/body language Apr. 4th - Basic Horsemanship Skills (Ground Work & Liberty)

We will begin the day at 9:30am and end around 11:30am.

Cost: $25.00 per workshop session, Package deal: $85 (includes all 4 sessions)

Payment for the program is due in full at time of registration and is nonrefundable. There is a limited amount of spots in this program. Are you currently trained as a Hopeful Heart Volunteer? What to bring / wear:

● Participants must wear closed toed shoes or boots that are okay to get dirty!
● Dress appropriate for weather, while we will be inside for part of the season, we will be outside working with the horses as well. Dress warm and bring additional layers if needed.
● Warm Hat & Gloves, or sun hat.
● Notebook and a eager attitude to learn!

RELEASE AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT

For and in consideration of the Mountain Valley Horse Rescue (MVHR), a Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation granting the undersigned permission to enter upon MVHR’s facility and/or allowing the undersigned to participate in equestrian activities on its premises, the undersigned hereby assumes any and all risk of loss or injury to the undersigned’s person and/or property, whether anticipated or unanticipated, arising from such entry upon MVHR’s premises and/or the undersigned’s participation in any equestrian activities.

The undersigned further agrees to indemnity MVHR, its Board of Directors, owners, agents, partners, subcontractors, volunteers and employees and to hold same harmless from any and all claims, demands, actions, expenses or liabilities (including MVHR’s attorneys’ fees and court costs) for any injury or damage to the undersigned and/or the undersigned’s property, arising out of the undersigned’s entry onto MVHR’s premises and/or participation in such equestrian activities and/or arising out of any act or acts of anyone or any animal within the undersigned’s control.

The undersigned acknowledges that equestrian activities such as horseback riding, horse care and maintenance contain inherent risks of injury and damage to the undersigned personally, the undersigned’s property and horse. Based upon such knowledge and in consideration of MVHR allowing the undersigned to enter onto its premises, hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators waive, release and hold harmless MVHR, its Board of Directors, owners, agents, servants and employees from any and all right, claims or liability for damages or injuries that might be sustained by the undersigned, or from any and all claims of any kind or nature that the undersigned might have as a result of, or arising out of the undersigned’s participation, whether caused by the undersigned’s own act or the acts of anyone or any animal within the undersigned’s control.

I hereby release for use in brochures and other marketing campaigns any photographs taken by MVHR and/or their volunteers or employees with their own cameras.

THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT I HAVE READ THE FOREGOING PARAGRAPHS AND KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE CONTENTS THEREOF.

MINORS - The undersigned declares that the undersigned is the parent or legal guardian of the minor named below. The undersigned has read the foregoing Release and Indemnity Agreement and in consideration of MVHR allowing such minor entry onto its premises and/or allowing such minor to participate in equestrian activities, hereby agrees that all of the terms and conditions contained herein shall apply to such minor and shall be binding upon the undersigned and the minor.

The undersigned declares under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Colorado, that the foregoing is true and correct.
