The Rummage Sale

Support MVHR at The Rummage Sale of Eagle County

Can't make it out to the ranch? There is another way to help MVHR this summer! Volunteer for The Rummage Sale of Eagle County in Edwards, Eagle or Avon. The hours you volunteer on behalf of MVHR are dollars earned for the Rescue in the form of a grant after the sale is completed. The Rummage Sale proceeds will be divided amongst the local nonprofits who participated by volunteering up until, and on the weekend, of the sale.

Volunteer opportunities are available each Saturday in August leading up to the sale, and the weekend of the sale - August 27-29. To sign up, visit https://unitedwayeagle.org/the-rummage-sale. There are many hours available, so you can choose what works for your schedule. Volunteer once or multiple times - all hours help MVHR! Questions? Contact marleen@mvhr.net.

Thank you for helping to support MVHR and this important community event, as well!

Jen, Marnie and Katie

Introducing Our New Board Members

This past June, after an extensive board recruitment process, we welcomed Jen Werderitch, Marnie Cullen, and Katie Shay to the MVHR Board of Directors. We are thrilled to have found three capable, dedicated and talented new members to support our mission and help MVHR as it continues to grow!

You can learn more about Jen, Marnie, Katie and the rest of our team at the Board and Staff page on our website.

Amira

Amira

Horse Updates

We are thrilled to announce that we had 4 adoptions last month! Ellie, Mr. Z, Minnie and Estrella were all welcomed into new families. While we will miss them (except Minnie who is boarding with us), we couldn't ask for a better outcome for these guys and gals. We're also happy to report that Salsa did indeed find a wonderful foster home for the rest of the summer and is enjoying lush green pasture with two other horse friends. If you would like to open your home temporarily, or forever, to one of our Rescue horses, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.

Following the adoptions above, we welcomed new intakes Doc and Amira. Doc is in his mid-teens and a well broke ranch/trail horse. We are just getting to know him, but so far he is nice to be around - big, handsome and personable! We are evaluating him for causes of lameness, possible navicular, or arthritis, so we can determine the next steps in his journey.

Amira is a 7-year-old grey mare who was rescued from auction by a caring individual. She had a severe tearing injury, most likely sustained while birthing a foal, resulting in her not being able to control her urine and bowel movements. Young and otherwise healthy, she needs multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair the tear. Her new owner could not afford this, so MVHR stepped in. Amira had her first surgery at the end of June and is recovering well. She will likely need up to three reconstructive surgeries in order for the tear to be fully repaired - an estimated total of $3000-5000. We are looking for a sponsor or sponsors to help with Amira's recovery. Please contact info@mvhr.net if you would like to help her on her way to the long, healthy and active life she deserves.

In Memorium

Sweet Blizzo was laid to rest last month, as his knee pain, swelling and mobility had progressed in spite of our best efforts to improve his comfort. He now runs pain free with those who have gone before him.

Melissa and Simon

Volunteer Spotlight: Melissa and Simon

Have you seen our beautiful new shaded picnic area? You can thank volunteers Melissa Waechter and Simon Williams for installing the posts and sunshade that give our campers and other visitors a place to escape the strong Colorado sun.

Melissa, a "Civil Service brat who is now more Coloradoan than Texan”, and Simon, originally from England who became a US Citizen this year, have helped MVHR with several maintenance projects this summer. With an ever-growing list of improvement projects and repairs, having volunteers to tackle these on a regular basis is a huge help to our operation.

Cali

Horse of The Month: Cali

This beautiful 6-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred is a recent intake from a local situation where she was not receiving the proper handling and training. In the short time she has been here, she has settled in well and has been started under saddle. Isn't she gorgeous?

Cali can be available sooner for adoption to an experienced rider who can continue her training. In the meantime, we will continue working with her to get her ready for a family of her own.

If you would like to adopt Cali, or learn more about our other adoptable horses, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.

Summer Day Camp

Program Updates

Special Opportunities to Visit MVHR

Birthday parties, family tours, groups of friends and service groups are available by appointment. Birthday parties have been a big hit - attendees might even get to ride a unicorn! - and are offered based on availability throughout the summer. Friend and family tours are an opportunity to visit our facility, meet our horses and hear their stories. These groups will also have a chance to groom one of our sweet Rescue horses. Finally, service groups will get to know our horses, and then work with a specific horse they may wish to sponsor, as they complete service projects around the ranch. For more information or to schedule one of these programs, contact info@mvhr.net.

Little Horse Friends & Mini Horse Heroes: Registration Opens September 1st

With our Horse Heroes Summer Day Camp wrapping up for the summer, these two popular programs are returning. Registration for fall dates will open on September 1st. Please visit the Programs page on our website for more information.

Horseback Riding Lesson Program: Call for Instructors

As we transition to fall, MVHR continues to work on developing an ongoing riding lesson program. Right now we are looking for instructors! If you have extensive horse experience and would be interested in sharing your knowledge with others, please email programs@mvhr.net. And if you'd be interested in lessons as they become available, please let us know that, too!
