Celebrating our Volunteers…the Heart of MVHR

Happy National Volunteer Appreciation Month!  When we say that our Volunteers are the Heart of MVHR, we mean it.  Our herd of horses need food, water, and care 365 days of the year, and with the help of our dedicated Volunteers we are able to meet our mission every single day.  With the opening of Robin’s Nest, our beautiful new indoor training facility, we are excited to welcome you all to our new Volunteer Headquarters just inside the main entrance, and to launch our Volunteer Appreciation Program.

Want to become a Volunteer? No experience is necessary!

Already a Volunteer? Join us for these upcoming events!

Community Volunteer Days Return!

We welcome any and all who wish to volunteer at MVHR to join us for upcoming “Saturdays at the Rescue” Community Volunteer Days on April 22, May 20, June 17, July 15, and August 12, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. All ages are welcome! Lunch is provided and transportation from Wolcott is available too!

For more information and to register for one of these days click here!

Become a Certified Volunteer

For those of you who would like to become a Certified Volunteer, which qualifies you to come up to the Rescue anytime to help, a Volunteer Orientation is offered from 1:30-3:30 on the “Saturdays at the Rescue” dates listed above. Once you’ve attended a Volunteer Orientation, you are welcome to come up anytime and stay as long as you like to help with Corral Catering (feed and water) and Manure Meditations (corral mucking), and can work towards becoming a Grooming Guru (horse grooming), or Tuesday Tech to help our veterinarian and farriers.

Other dates are also available for Volunteer Orientation - for more information and to register click here!

Current Volunteer Refresher Orientation

With our base of operations moving to the new Robin’s Nest facility, we’ll be offering refresher orientations for all of our current volunteers and those who have not been out since the opening of Robin’s Nest. We’ll show you where to find all the tools, supplies, and equipment you’ll need during your time at the Rescue. Email us to let us know when you’d like to come up for a refresher orientation or to join us for one of our scheduled Volunteer Orientations.

Our NEW Volunteer Appreciation Program

Our new Volunteer Appreciation Program provides exclusive perks and programs just for our Volunteers. As you work your way up the Volunteer Milestones Ladder, we’ll show our gratitude with special gifts. Join our Hopeful Hearts Program and you will have the opportunity to be matched with a Rescue horse that you will nurture and work with on their Journey of Hope to help move them toward adoption. As a Pass It On Partner, you will receive a very special gift each time you bring a friend to the Rescue who also becomes a Volunteer. Best of all, you get to choose what programs and what areas of help work best for you. We want your experience at MVHR to be meaningful and fulfilling.

While April may be National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we are incredibly appreciative of our Volunteers every single day of the year. Thank you, current Volunteers, and if you are not yet a volunteer, we look forward to adding your name to our list of dedicated horse lovers. For more information visit our website.

The MVHR Volunteer Program is generously sponsored by the Herota Family.  Thank you!

Welcome to Robin's Nest!

On Monday, April 3, we started welcoming volunteers in the new check-in and office areas,  training horses in the indoor arena, and putting the equipment spaces to full use to support daily operations! We still have some punch list projects we'll be finishing up, and kinks to work out as we use this new space, but with your patience and understanding we are excited to move into the new building!

Would you like to come out for a tour or are you a volunteer who needs a refresher orientation to the new space? Tours and refreshers are available on: April 10th, 16th, and May 8 or by appointment. Make sure you email us, which day you'd like to be out! We can't wait to share this incredible new facility, made possible by the Rhea Bigelow Charitable Trust, with you!

Horse Updates

It must be spring, because horses are starting to move!

Beautiful Phantom was returned in February, but has already found a loving home with a family of her own!

Carmel and Noche were returned when circumstances in their adoptive home changed, and are back at the ranch in quarantine. Noche will be with us only a short while before heading to a foster home with his "sister" Bonita. Sweet Carmel is looking forward to helping with programs this summer, until her perfect person comes along!

New intakes Babe and Hans round out the current quarantine gang. Babe is sweet, broke, and beautiful, but battling some laminitis we are hopeful we can help her with.

BIG, handsome Hans must have started life in the draft horse show world, but has since been through a number of owners and now has some health issues we are evaluating and will develop a plan for him.  Stay tuned as these great horses begin their Journey of Hope!

And with Tango, Bonita, Freddie, Big, and Abe all returning from winter pasture, MVHR is again full!  Hopefully spring will continue to bring adoptions for these horses, and all of our wonderful herd, so we can continue bringing others in that are currently on the waiting list.

Are you ready to consider adoption? Click HERE to learn more about the process!

While on our waiting list, many owners provide MVHR with information about their horses and ask for help marketing them, in hopes of getting them placed directly into new private homes. This is a service MVHR provides at no cost, and to anyone who requests it. The list is long, and there are some great horses looking for homes on our "Other Horses" page. Check them out!
