Collins with this special boy where he will check in to CSU Veterinary Training Hospital to get ready for his surgery on Friday April 18. We are so grateful for his opportunity and everyone's support in this endeavor, as MVHR continues to push the boundaries of the care we can provide each individual horse on their Journey of Hope. We are at $19,559 raised, 56% of the way to the estimated cost of $35,000. Thank you to all who have already donated. If you would still like to pbe part of this incredible Journey, click here. Other ways to help are to forward Catillac's email to others and share his story on social media! | | | | Other MVHR Horse Updates! Besides Catillac's update, there are more amazing Journeys! We are excited to share that long time ranch residents, Star(dust) & Tango were adopted at the end of March! These two mares are besties, both had foals at MVHR, and now found their perfect home together: a ranch of their own with pasture to roam as companions to another horse. You can read their Journey of Hope by clicking here. Leave it to Star and Tango to prove that there is a home for EVERY horse. Four intakes arrived in quarantine in the last few weeks. Three new horses, Huckleberry, Cricket & Rebel Rose came from various walks of life, and we welcomed back Cremello, adopted in April 2024, returned due to no fault of his own. Rebel Rose is a gelding in his mid-twenties who needed a safe place when his companion passed away. Cricket is a cute little Arabian mare, who needs special feed due to a history of laminitis and Huckleberry is only seven, however has hind end lameness issues we are hoping to help him with. Cremello is in his mid-teens and a wonderful horse under saddle. He is a looker with his white coat and blue eyes. He is very smart and he thrives with an experienced handler. Interested in your next horse, or know someone who is? Amazing horses are waiting for their next adventures! Come meet Dakota, Suede, Ginger, Cremello, Clementine, Lucky, Ernie, Cassidy, Rusty & Gem if you hope to get on the trail! Or maybe you are looking for a best friend to cuddle with and take on leisure walks, come meet Hammer, Daisy, Vern, Boomer, Big, Freddie, Torec & Belle! Adoptions make it possible for us to help more horses on to next chapters of their own! A list of the Current Herd can be found by clicking below! | | | | | | | | | | Roman Roman aka Mister, arrived with as a stallion at MVHR in December 2012 together with his stud horse buddy Marty. Both came from a ranch where they were previously used for breeding, but when their owner passed away they needed to leave the ranch they were living at. After arrival MVHR quickly worked to get them gelded and started their training process. During this time we found that Roman has spinal stenosis and could not be ridden. A former stud horse and not fond of other horses, he was housed in a corral by himself at Bruce Creek and later became the greeter at the ranch in McCoy in a special corral with stall just for him. His name changed from Mister to Roman, as an animal communicator shared that was the name he wanted. He became a favorite amongst volunteers, visitors and supporters. In his 10 years with MVHR, he was fostered for some time and later generously sponsored by Decorative Materials for many years. We expected him to live out his life with us. But then Roman met Laura! Here is her Update on Roman! "Roman came to me in February 2022. I had met him at Hay Day 2021 and he was so sweet! I was drawn to him instantly and his story of being at the rescue for 10 years never left my mind. He has spinal stenosis so he cannot be ridden and I assume that is why he had a long run without his person. The rideable factor has never been an issue to me." "It took me a few months after meeting him to feel comfortable taking on a 3rd rescue horse but I am so glad I did. Roman admittedly was a bit of a challenge in the beginning, I never knew what I was going to get going into the stall with him. Sometimes very sweet and loveable and other times pretty darn feisty, but I wasn’t going to give up on him and kept trying. It finally occurred to me that on his bad days, he wasn’t feeling good, most likely in pain. He had been on daily Equioxx (an anti-inflammatory) but it was becoming clear that wasn’t enough to manage him day to day. After switching him to Bute (stronger pain medication), the personality turn around was significant." "Roman now wants all kinds of love & kisses, which I am more than happy to accommodate! He is absolutely beautiful; I love him so and he sucks me in with those eyes every time! He is affectionately called my Sweet & Spicy, who turns 23 on May 1st!" Thank you Laura for sharing this update and for adopting Roman in 2022! We are so glad Roman found his person he was waiting for all along! | | | | | MVHR Community, Events & Programs | | | | Help a Horse Day ~ Spring Fling!
