WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!!

Mountain Valley Horse Rescue would not exist without our amazing and dedicated volunteers. This month are would like to share a little bit about Sallie Lodewyck and her wonderful family. The Lodewyck family, Sallie, Garrett, Molly and June moved to Edwards 5 years ago from Boulder. Sallie grew up taking riding lessons and her family raises and races Standard Bred horses in Indiana. Growing up, she loved both riding and going to the races at county fairs. Her interest in MVHR started last summer when Molly and June attended Little Horse Heroes. After completing the training program, she and her family have been coming to help out at the ranch ever since.

" Our friend and MVHR Board member Jen Werderitch, introduced us to the rescue when I was looking for a place for Molly to do some riding. We were so impressed with the organization, facility and the people that we wanted to get involved.

We volunteer because it's a great way to spend time as a family, we get to be outside and
it's easy to help with such a well organized schedule. We really enjoy using the vehicles and petting the horses. Our favorite task is scooping poop and driving the poop spreader into the pasture!

The best part about volunteering is leaving the rescue knowing we helped make a small difference. It's also very rewarding to see our kids gain confidence and learn about working together as a team to help the rescue"

Lori Tabb was all smiles when she came out to the rescue for the first time with MVHR Board member
Marnie Cullen this past weekend. Lori had no idea of how much joy volunteering would bring to her day and how rewarding it felt to spend time with the horses and help out with daily chores.

After posting pictures on her instagram account, she had a few girl friends reach out asking
if they could come out and help. She is now looking forward to putting together a bunch a friends to all come out together and spend time helping at the ranch.
All we can say is WOW!! Thank you Lori for spreading the good word.

From all of us at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue...
Thank you Sallie, Lori and all of our wonderful volunteers!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

HAY DAY!!! We would LOVE any help for our annual family friendly
event to be held on Saturday, October 1st.
Interested? Please reach out to nancy@mvhr.net

  • Basic Volunteer Orientation: Available by appointment. No set commitment of time or schedule is required to help take care of the horses in recovery at MVHR, just this basic training.
  • Feeding & Chore Shifts: After completing Basic Volunteer Orientation, you can sign up to cover any of our three daily chore shifts - watering, feeding and mucking. Open shifts are shown on our website calendar or if you're not able to commit to an entire shift, you can pop out to help with mucking or watering any time you'd like!
  • Tuesday Vet Days: Veterinarian Dr. Stocker treats horses from 10am-4pm. If you want to help handle horses, this is a great way to learn about the rescue herd's vet needs and treatments.

WELCOME PONCHO & DARCY

Poncho is a cute four year old paint gelding who has been minimally handled.

Darcy is a 10 year old off the track thoroughbred who won thousands back in his running days. He has been diagnosed with kissing spines and we are working on to determine the next steps in his rehabilitation.

If you are interested in learning more about these two or any other of our available horses,
please email
info@mvhr.net.

Horse of The Month: ANGEL

Angel is in her 30's, and truly is an angel….as gentle as can be.

She has some special needs that MVHR is helping her manage, and she is feeling great! And…she is the most fun and gentle light riding horse for even the very youngest of riders.

Could she be your Angel? Come out and spend time with her.
She's a special lady for sure.

PROGRAM UPDATES

MINI HORSE HEROES
FALL DATES ARE GOING FAST!

Our most popular program takes place two Saturdays a month! It's a fun way for kids ages 3-5 years, and their parents/caregivers, to spend time at the ranch. The little ones get introduced to the rescue horses in a playful way and will spend time with them while exploring developmentally appropriate concepts related to preschool learning targets. Each session will include learning about horse care, grooming & leading, and finishes with a pony ride.

SAVE THE DATE! HAY DAY 2022

Join us at the ranch on October 1, 2022 for our 8th Annual Hay Day!

This is a fun, FREE, family-friendly event. Meet the Rescue herd, enjoy pony rides, games and learn what MVHR is all about. Food, drinks and baked goods will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to MVHR. Once again, we'll host the Hay Day Online Auction with amazing gifts and goods just prior to our in person celebration.

Interested in volunteering? We would LOVE to have you! Please reach out to nancy@mvhr.net
