| | FEBRUARY! ALREADY?! Winter has been quite full of snow and cold at the ranch this year. The horses in their furry coats seem little bothered by even the coldest days, but quickly lay out flat to enjoy the sun when it comes out. Even when it's only 10 degrees, you would think it was beach weather the way sprawl in the sunshine! Only a month old, 2023 has already been a year of both celebrations and defeats. In the rescue world, it seems moments of joy and sorrow often come, almost hand-in-hand as we help as many horses as possible along their Journeys of Hope. | | | | HORSE UPDATES The first adoption of the year was one we are especially excited about, as Harald, the most recent addition to MVHR' staff, found "his" girl and adopted sweet Sierra. They are having fun getting to know each other, even on the cold snowy days of winter! Heartbreakingly, we lost sweet Shade Ladie in January after a slip and fall on the ice proved catastrophic for the beautiful girl. Hardly seems fair that such a sweet horse should be taken so unexpectedly. But as we head into February, our spirits are lifted, as it seems Love is in the Air! Cole, Rex, Angel and Baybee are all moving toward adoptions with the most amazing, loving new homes! |
| | As adoptions finalize, MVHR will figure out who from our long waiting list is in most urgent need of help, and get them to the ranch so that they can begin their Journey of Hope. While on our waiting list, many owners provide MVHR with information about their horse and ask for help marketing them, in hopes of getting them directly into new private homes. This is a service MVHR provides at no cost, and to anyone who requests it. The list is long, and there are some great horses looking for homes on our "Other Horses" page. Check them out! |

| | VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - We Need Your Help! No horse experience is needed to volunteer, as MVHR provides introductory and ongoing training to help to develop horsemanship skills that will allow you to volunteer with the horses in varying capacities, based on your interest, such as: Corral Catering Water and hay need to be topped off throughout the day, and the horses will love you for it! Manure Meditations What more valuable way to spend time than putting a corner of the world all to rights, and all for the horses?! There's always plenty of manure to go around and, whether scooping one corral or five, every single pile picked up helps the horses stay happy and healthy...and you too ;)! Tuesday Tech - Both the vet and the farrier are at the ranch on Tuesdays, and that makes for a busy day when we could use extra hands to help handling horses! You can learn to be a "Tech" and assist with catching and holding horses while they have their vet and farrier treatments, and even help with any ongoing treatments they may need on other days of the week. Grooming Gurus For those who can’t wait to get in there and curry and comb, getting all the dirt and tangles out! Grooming helps improve the health of each and every horse, and this is a great way to get to know the herd! |
