Goodbye 2020. Hello 2021!

A new year always brings optimism and hope for the future, but this year the future seems especially bright for MVHR. We have a lot to look forward to, a lot to be grateful for and a lot to celebrate!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You - our friends and supporters - blew us away with your generosity in 2020. We entered the pandemic worried for the future of the Rescue, and continued to tighten our belts when we were unable to host in-person fundraising brunches and events. We needn't have worried because your support was steady and especially generous at the end of the year. Our Colorado Gives Day total alone was more than double what we raised in 2019. We are so thankful for each of you in our wonderful MVHR community!

Because of your generosity, we have much to look forward to in 2021:

  • Purchase of a new flatbed trailer, so we no longer have to borrow one to haul hay and equipment.
  • Purchase of an additional Kubota or RTV. This adds reliability to our aging fleet and ensures we will always have a working machine which is vital to our chore and feeding shifts.
  • Rebranding of our Horse Heroes Summer Day Camps. More to come on the new programming!
  • New capital improvements to the property. Stay tuned for more details!
  • And - most importantly - the ability to continue helping equines in need of our care.

Thank you for helping us continue our mission in 2021. We hope the year includes gathering once again in person, but until then we wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

Phantom

Phantom and Diane

Horse Updates: 30 Horses Adopted in 2020!

Yes, we announced that statistic last month, but now that it is official it bears repeating. Hawk, Miss B and Phantom's adoptions were finalized in December bringing us to 30 adoptions last year. Our "Hopeful Hearts...Helping Horses" are bursting with joy!

Phantom, our final adoption in 2020, was adopted by Diane Larouche from last month's "Volunteer Spotlight". Diane says, "Without the support of MVHR working with me to ensure fit (e.g. getting to know her and her me, horsemanship skills, etc.) and safety, I would not of ventured into adoption. It is a well thought out process. I am very excited!!!" Congratulations to them both!

There were no new intakes in December, but we may soon have another adoption of handsome gelding, Blue Moon.

If you would like to sponsor or adopt any of the horses at MVHR this year, please contact Shana at shana@mvhr.net

Marie

Volunteer Spotlight: Marie Thompson

Always a horse lover, Marie grew up in Minneapolis, MN where as a kid, she would use a tree limb as her imaginary horse. She always dreamed of someday living out west on a horse ranch, so finding MVHR is her “dream come true”.

Marie earned her BS in business from the University of Minnesota and worked at the university for more than 10 years. She purchased her first horse while in high school and later...

Tamien

Horse of The Month: Tamien

Tamian came to MVHR with his friend Holiday when his family fell on hard times. To complicate things even further, their arrival was pushed up after they were forced to evacuate their home during the Cameron Peak Fire last summer.

A history of founder - inflammation of the laminae of the horse's foot - makes Tamian an especially challenging case. Since arriving at MVHR, he has had multiple hoof trims to correct their angle and quality, has been on medications to keep him comfortable, wears special Soft Ride boots to support his hooves and underlying bones, and sees Dr. Stocker weekly for acupuncture and chiropractic treatments. Tamian also struggles with some nerve damage and/or circulatory issues that compromise his ability to move normally. With Dr. Stocker’s help, MVHR remains hopeful for a more comfortable future for Tamian, but his prognosis is very guarded.

Tamien is just about the sweetest boy to be around. We enjoy his bright eyes and hopeful look every day, and are working to do all we can to give him an opportunity for a more comfortable life.

If you would like to sponsor or support Tamien's recovery journey, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.
