| It's been a busy Summer... The rescue is bursting at the seams, and we started the month of July with 33 horses in the rescue herd! Even with 8 adoptions finalizing in June, our largest number in one month yet, we never slow down with five new intakes just in this last week arriving into quarantine. Phone calls have increased, with owners looking for help with their horses and MVHR already has more intakes planned for August and September, as long as adoptions continue. With that many horses in MVHR care, Hay season will be more important than ever, especially with the lack of moisture in Colorado! You can help us feed the rescue herd by supporting our annual Brunch for the Horses Fundraiser! Donate or Buy Tickets, only a few left! Click here or read on below how you can help! Summer Camp finished it's eighth week, and the kids have had so much fun putting ribbons and glitter on the horses, learning how to get a horse to follow without a lead line and spending time outdoors at the ranch. Priceless days for both the children and the horses. Still a few camp spots left for later in the Summer, sign up now! And volunteers...your help has been incredible during these warm Summer days at the Ranch. We are so grateful for your support in caring for & loving on the horses on a daily basis. Thank you to all the groups who came out like the Vail Valley Edwards Jones Team, Mountain Life Vail Valley Youth, CASA of the Continental Divide and Mountain Dreamers. We have added a Tuesday volunteer training in August, September and October, read more below! Continue reading for more details and updates from MVHR! | | HAY there Friends! Molly & Ginger left on their adoption trial last week, and are doing well at the new home. Clementine settled in well in Phippsburg and cute little Padme has a new family and will stay at the ranch as a boarder for now. Daisy chose a sweet little girl of her own, and almost ran into the trailer to leave for her adoption trial last week as well! Some sad news from the program herd; we had to say goodbye to Torlen, one of our boarders and trusted program horses on July 1. We will dearly miss him, as he was a favorite in our HOPE Camp, but know he is now overlooking the ranch and the river. Did you know MVHR has an amazing program herd who are such graceful teachers to all who visit? Read more about them here. Five new intakes arrived into quarantine this past week; Blue, a sweet Paint Mare in her late teens with metabolic decease, Pinto Bean, a 4 year old Bay Mustang Gelding and 12 year old USFS Molly Mule, Dolores who had a recent episode of laminitis and therefore had to retire from the service. In addition we also welcomed Hanson, an 8 year old Grey Mustang Gelding and Juniper, a 14 year old Paint mare who needed a safe place to land. We look forward to getting to know this bunch and find them their next chapter in life. Interested in your next horse, or know someone who is? Amazing horses are waiting for their next adventures! Come meet Lucy, Cremello, Daci, Zephyr, Dancer, Cricket, Lucky, Daisy, Ernie, Gem, Dolly, Babe, Latigo, Huckleberry, Hammer, Rebel, Boomer, Big, Freddie, Torec & Belle! Adoptions make it possible for us to help more horses with next chapters of their own, and for you to have an amazing horse in your life! She and her mother Maddie were seized from a hording situation, where the property was housing a lot of different animals in and around the house. Leila, who was frequently at the rescue, immediate connection and adopted Abby in late 2016. Here is their Story... "I was 8 years old and Abby was 3 when she came to the rescue. After being a pasture pet for her first few years, she was barely halter trained and needed lots of work. Of course, she was the one I wanted because she was the one who always came up to the fence as you walked past." "We began on a long journey of training and building trust. After many years of riding her and many challenging moments, we took her to her first 4-H horse show. Although she was not too sure about being a show pony, we took home a couple Grand Champion buckles. With more work and riding I decided I wanted to try her out at Gymkhanas. At first she didn’t understand the concept of barrel racing but now, 3-4 years later, she loves it and is helping me stay in the running for multiple gymkhana series buckles. The most exciting thing that I have worked with her on and get to showcase this coming week is turning her into a Rodeo Queen horse. We are leading the 4-H Freedom Riders Drill Team, carrying sponsor flags, and presenting the American Flag for grand entry at our local rodeo." "The past 9 years with Abby have been filled with hard work, training, tears, and lots of perseverance. I am so grateful that she found her way to Mountain Valley Horse Rescue and then her way to me because she is such a fun little mare. We have both come so far together over the years and I'm very excited to continue my journey with her." And we are grateful for you, Leila, for giving Abby this amazing life! Thank you for this update and for adopting Abby in 2016! Friends, if you are at the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo this week, make sure you wave at Leila and Abby as they gallop around the arena! | | | | | | | | MVHR Anniversary Shirts! 2025 New T-Shirts in Amazing Colors!
