| | Calling All MVHR Volunteers Summer is upon us and we've missed you! The horses are enjoying the warmer weather, the barn construction is in full swing, irrigation is up and running, and the grass is green. This is one of the best times of year to be at the ranch, so come on out - we've got plenty of volunteer shifts to fill! MVHR has "shifted" its approach to volunteering a bit. Our goal is still to fill shifts as much as possible, but remember...you don't need to sign up for a full shift to come help out and spend some time with the horses. As long as you have been through volunteer orientation and know where to help, come on out! If you would like to see what times and days we need the most assistance each week, you can check out the volunteer calendar at mountainvalleyhorserescue.com/volunteer-main. If you're new to Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, we hope you'll join us at Volunteer Orientation Saturday, June 11th, from 3-6pm, and Monday, June 13th, from 12-3pm. You can email info@mvhr.net to let us know if you'd like to attend. Thank you for all you do for the horses. They look forward to seeing you soon! |

| | Equine Updates May was #adoptahorse month and we had 5 horses enter their trial adoption periods - Abe, Paloma, Aster, Carmel, and Noche. We are so excited to watch them take these steps towards new forever homes and wish them all the best. So far in 2022, MVHR has facilitated 15 adoptions and welcomed 9 new intakes. If you are interested in adding one - or two - of our wonderful equines to your family, please contact us at info@mvhr.net to learn more about our horses and adoption process. Let's keep the momentum going! New intakes Boomer and Speedy were the first to enjoy our recently improved quarantine area. Boomer is a handsome paint gelding who is broke, but has minor lameness issues. Speedy is a very sweet and curious Arabian gelding who is 29 years old. |

| | Meet the Board: Cookie Murphy-Pettee Cookie has been on Mountain Valley Horse Rescue's all-volunteer Board of Directors since 2015 and is currently serving as Board President. Her passion for animal welfare, prior volunteer and board experience, and expertise in facilitation, strategic planning, and organizational improvement have been invaluable as MVHR continues to grow as an organization under her leadership. Cookie has a birthday coming up on June 19th and invites you to celebrate with a gift to the Rescue horses! She is asking for donations of $7, $17, $77 or $777 to raise a total of $777 in honor of her 77th birthday. And if you donate $77 or more, you'll get an MVHR t-shirt! The "77th Birthday Celebration" will take place on our Facebook page, so make sure you "like" and "follow" MVHR. |

| | Horse of The Month: Clifton Clifton is 20-something years old and was still a stud horse, although not being used for breeding, before coming to MVHR. He went to Roaring Fork Equine Medical Center directly from his previous home to get gelded. Despite some health issues and his advanced age he came through it just great! Clifton is a sweet, friendly guy who adjusted to wearing a saddle immediately when he started his training with Joel. He is a good boy who wants to please his handler and now he is ready for a new home of his very own. Clifton is generously sponsored by Laura Hansen. If you'd like to learn more about adopting him, please contact us at info@mvhr.net. |

| | | Program Updates MINI HORSE HEROES: DATES RELEASED FOR AUGUST & SEPTEMBER Our most popular program takes place two Saturdays a month! It's a fun way for kids ages 3-5 years, and their parents/caregivers, to spend time at the ranch. The little ones get introduced to the rescue horses in a playful way and will spend time with them while exploring developmentally appropriate concepts related to preschool learning targets. Each session will include learning about horse care, grooming & leading, and finishes with a pony ride. Learn more and register at mountainvalleyhorserescue.salsalabs.org/mhh2022. SUMMER DAY CAMPS: DATES STILL OPEN IN JULY & AUGUST MVHR is excited to offer kids ages 5-14 new opportunities to spend their days this summer with horses. Day camps will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 7th through August 11th, 2022. Kids can sign up for one day or multiple days in a row, or spread days throughout the summer. The day camp themes will vary based on the day or week and include Horse Heroes Day Camp, H.O.P.E. Liberty Day Camp and Horse Glamour Day Camp. No prior horse experience is needed to participate and MVHR will provide transportation from Wolcott. Full and partial scholarships are available for all day camps. For more information and to register, visit the Programs page on our website. |

Open shifts are shown on our website calendar. OR if you're not able to commit to an entire shift, you can pop out to help with mucking any time you'd like!
