| Newsletter June 2026 On these hot Summer days one of the favorite past times for the horses is taking naps, lots of long naps, either standing up in the shade or on the ground which gives some cooling. The goal is as little movement as possible. It is wonderful to see all the different horses, all from different walks of life, become friends who are comfortable enough with one another to lay down, with not a worry in the world. This life is possible thanks to you, our volunteers, supporters and donors, who help us to create this safe and comfortable haven while the horses wait for their next chapter. The Brunch for Horses is on Sunday, July 19th in Edwards. Help us continue to provide Hay, Feed, and the best care possible for the herd, by joining us for this special day. We are looking to raise 30% more this year to cover the increase in hay, feed and fuel costs brought on by drought and world events. Read more and purchase tickets below! Equine Explorers are roaming the ranch as this newsletter goes out. These Summer day campers are learning about horse health and nutrition, anatomy, body condition scores and body language in addition to basic horsemanship with the rescue herd in a brand new four day program. The next generation of equine advocates are in the making! So far nearly 100 kids have come to the ranch this Summer and we are not even half way through! There are still spots available for day camp, read below how to register. Continue reading for more details and updates from MVHR! |
| MVHR Horse Updates June has been a busy month with potential adopters meeting the rescue herd. Zephyr, Rico and Missy Rae finalized their adoptions and Bonita and Pete are both in adoption trials. Thanks to all of these new chapters, we have been able to chip away at our growing waiting list, welcoming four new horses this past month. Stache is a handsome bay gelding in his mid teens who was a working ranch horse but who also carried even the littlest kids for family adventures. He could no longer do the hard work after presenting some front end lameness. We hope to help him be more comfortable and see what he might be up for in his next chapter. Prince, a cute eight year old bay Arabian/Morgan cross with insulin resistance, is looking for his next family to go on adventures with who can house him on a dry lot to manage his dietary needs. And duo, Ray Ray & Tigger made it to us all the way from Farmington, NM. Ray Ray is a grey Appaloosa gelding in his twenties, and Tigger is a bay, 2 year old stud cold with limited handling. Some time ago we also welcomed Calamity Jane. We can finally introduce her after the law enforcement seizure case she was part of settled in court. CJ came from a severe neglect case, involving lots of other animals, and we are grateful she made her way to MVHR. We are helping her gain weight, and so far her funny and sassy personality has started to shine through now that she feels better. All have settled in at MVHR and we are happy they are here so we can help them find their next best chapter in life! All of the above is possible, thanks to our wonderful donors, who allow us to help horses with anything they need. MVHR has outstanding horses who are waiting for their next loving home. Those that are rideable won't be here for very long. Are you looking? Then don't wait to check them out! A list of the Current Herd can be found by clicking below! |
