One Step Closer to Completing the Dream

A major MVHR "Complete the Dream" Capital Campaign goal is about to come true. The Rhea Bigelow Charitable Trust has committed to funding construction on the Rhea Bigelow Charitable Trust Legacy Barn at MVHR. This indoor arena, barn, office, and multi-use facility will be informally known as "Robin's Nest".

This has been a dream of MVHR's since moving to our permanent home in McCoy in 2016. Currently, horse training and socialization comes to a near halt during any inclement weather, especially during the challenging winter months. This means that dozens of horses on the wait list are postponed the opportunity for help and support, while those at the Rescue await the skills they need to find forever homes. A barn with an indoor arena will change all that, and allow for expanded and year-round human education programs.

Excavation is scheduled to begin this month with plans for completion by next winter. The Board and Staff are finalizing plans, preparing for the project start, and dancing for joy! Stay tuned for more information in future newsletters.

MVHR Programs to Continue During Barn Construction

Certain aspects of our programs will be adjusted to accommodate the construction, but rest assured, they will continue. Registration for our new H.O.P.E. Summer Day Camp opens on March 18th. You'll find all the details below in "Program Updates".

Buffy

Buffy

Horse Updates

We had two horses in trial adoptions last month. Buffy headed off with her prospective family towards the end of February, and Ruby 2 finished her trial adoption onsite and is officially adopted. We are so excited for both of them as they embark on their new journeys!

The new intakes we were evaluating early last month were all placed with new families directly, which is a wonderful thing! We will have new intakes to introduce you to in our next newsletter, so stay tuned for details.

Thursday Vet Days

Thursday has become our regular veterinarian day at MVHR. We work with Dr. Stocker treating horses from 10am-4pm. If you have interest in helping handle horses and getting to learn a lot about the Rescue herd's vet needs and treatments, let us know at info@mvhr.net.

Volunteer Mary with Latigo

Volunteer Spotlight: Mary Wolf

Mary has been a trained MVHR volunteer for over a year and likes doing all of the volunteer tasks. That’s lucky for us, because she not only holds a regular chore shift each week, she holds two and has for many months now.

A part-timer in Vail since 1990, Mary’s main residence was in suburban Chicago. She made the move to the valley full-time in 2015 and has been living in Eagle ever since.

Estrella

Horse of The Month: Estrella

She's an awesome little horse ready for a home of her own!

This cute Arab cross mare is a real joy. Well broke, sensitive and responsive she will be a fun one! In her mid-teens and about 14.2 hands, she would best suit an intermediate child or small adult rider.

If you would like to adopt Estrella, or be a sponsor who helps change a horse's life forever, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.
