Newsletter November 2024

After a sunny October, winter has officially arrived at the ranch with snow and short days. Daily chores are a little more challenging but the horses are happy with plenty of hay and love from all the amazing volunteers braving the elements. With the shorter days come the most amazing sunsets during feeding time and the sounds of horses eating hay can be quietly heard in the background.

The winter days also make our phone ring with more requests to take in horses. As folks have difficulty securing hay, feeding horses extra grain or housing them in the winter, we get more desperate calls for horses needing a safe place to go. We took in seven new horses since the last newsletter, four of which just arrived yesterday, all in need of extra groceries and care.

2024 is on pace to have a record number of adoptions, with 28 horses finding loving homes so far. We couldn't care for any of these amazing horses without your ongoing support and help spreading the word about MVHR's mission. As we head into Colorado Gives Season and Year End Giving, please consider making or increasing your donation this year so we can continue to help more horses. You can give between now and December 10th for Colorado Gives Day, and the more MVHR raises for this special day, the larger the percentage of the incentive fund we receive!

In this Newsletter you will also find a number of other ways that you can help the horses during year end or any other time of year. Whether you donate to the "Volunteers Sponsors a Horse" campaign, support the horses through holiday shopping, donate stock or plan a future gift, all have an amazing impact on the lives of horses in need.

Horse Updates

Heartbreakingly, two horses in our herd were laid to rest at the end of last month, Sonny and Carmel, and they were buried overlooking the river where they will forever be with us. To read more about their Journey, click HERE.

In happier news, Little Bay (LB) headed to an adoptive home earlier this month, and we are so excited for him to have a family of his very own. Happy Endings like this are only possible thanks to your support!

And so....Vern, Cassidy, and Patron came to us a few weeks ago and have already moved through quarantine and into corrals. This makes room for Dancer, Suede, Elvis and Sunny who arrived just yesterday. This keeps our herd count at 32 horses in MVHR care, well above our stated capacity of 27 horses. We are grateful to all of you who make this swell in herd numbers possible so that we can help more horses on to next chapters of their own!

Help us continue to help more horses in 2024!  Adopt, sponsor, foster!  Reach out to see what might fit for you!

Colorado Gives Day is Dec. 10!

... and it’s easily the best day to give, as it is The Day that Keeps on Giving. Mountain Valley Horse Rescue invites you to join us in starting a wave of generosity.

Early Giving is going on NOW through December 10, every donation you make will be boosted with a $1M+ Incentive Fund, made possible by Colorado Gives Foundation and FirstBank. Each nonprofit will receive a share of the fund based on their percentage of the total raised. Plus, if you set up a new monthly donation, Colorado Gives Foundation will match your first monthly donation up to $100 and up to $250,000 in total across all organizations!

This is a fantastic opportunity to double your impact and support MVHR's effort to find all equines in our care their very own happy ending in their Journey of Hope. Leading up to and on Colorado Gives Day, YOU can help us make that happen.

Calling on ALL our amazing MVHR volunteers! Sponsor a Horse!

Wouldn't it be amazing when you visit the ranch, or when you talk to your friends and family about your volunteer time at MVHR you can say; "I kinda own a horse" ;)? This Colorado Gives Day, volunteers are coming together to collectively sponsor Babe and make her "their horse".

As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary Year we'd like to acknowledge all the amazing volunteers, past & present, who have supported MVHR by caring for the rescue herd. Whether you are here every week, come very now and then or volunteered your time and efforts at any point over the last 20 years - THANK YOU! MVHR can not exist without YOU, our wonderful volunteers who come out to the ranch and dedicate their time to the horses in our care. With this being a very special year ahead, Louise is rallying all her volunteer peers to come together to underwrite a horse.
