Celebrate Hay Day With Us Online!

Join us at MVHR's 1st ever Hay Day Online Auction from October 6th-16th. While we can't offer virtual pony rides or caramel apples, we can move our in-person silent auction online, which is exactly what we've done! You will find great items to bid on including lodging at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, restaurant gift certificates, western horse art, gift baskets, jewelry, saddles and more, to support our wonderful herd of Rescue horses. Stay tuned for another email on October 6th with a link to the auction site.

In the spirit of continuing the family-friendly fun of Hay Day, we'll also be adding lots of kids activities to the Kids Corner page on our website.

Thank you for your support and being part of our amazing MVHR community! We will miss seeing everyone this fall at our annual Hay Day celebration, but hope you all continue to stay safe and healthy. The horses, donkeys and ponies wish you good luck in your bidding!

Horse Updates: Lots of New Faces at MVHR

While Tango's baby still hasn't made an appearance, we did welcome 5 new intakes last month. Tamien and Holiday arrived first - Tamien badly foundered and Holiday too thin. They have been receiving vet care, farrier care and lots of love from our volunteers while recovering in quarantine. Phantom, a beautiful Appaloosa mare, arrived soon after from Parshall. She's in good shape and just needs a training tune up. Last, but definitely not least, Nova and Buffy (pictured) made their way to us last week. These two lovable horses arrived with feet in terrible shape. They spent their first full day at the Rescue with Dr. Silvia Stocker and farrier Gary Hoza, beginning their recovery.

Adoptions & Sponsorships!

Melody, Cekka, Lucy, Harley, Sampson and Buddy were all adopted into loving forever homes in September. Buddy, who had been previously adopted, was returned to us last month. MVHR's promise is to always take back a horse if the family is no longer able to care for it. We knew it wouldn't be long until Buddy caught someone's eye and he quickly was off on another trial adoption.

More good news: Bonita, our sweet, senior mare finally has a sponsor of her own! She has been waiting a long time for one and we couldn't be happier for this very deserving girl. Tango was also sponsored in September, and when her baby finally decides to arrive, he or she will have the same sponsor, as well. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to support a horse at MVHR. If you would like to sponsor a horse of your own, please contact Shana at shana@mvhr.net

Harald

Volunteer Spotlight: Harald Mikkelson

With dreams of “riding his own horse into the hills someday”, Harald landed at MVHR to learn all he can about horses from Shana and Joel. He says, “Scooping poop is a small price to pay for the knowledge one can gain at such a wonderful place. And I have a lot to learn.”

Horse of The Month: Holiday

One of our brand new herd members, Holiday, arrived with Tamien after they were both evacuated from the Cameron Peak Fire west of Fort Collins, Colorado. Holiday is a 25 year old gelding who is broke, gentle and needs some extra care to get him back on his feet. He's already received vet care from Dr. Silvia Stocker and needs to have his teeth floated, but first we are working to get more weight on this sweet guy. He's gone from grain twice a day to grain 5 times a day, so we hope to see him fat and happy again soon!

If you'd like to be part of Holiday's recovery journey, please visit https://www.mountainvalleyhorserescue.com/donate.
