The colder months are upon us...

...rainy days and colder temps this week are telling us Fall is here and Winter isn't far away. The horses are starting to grow their coats and some get their blankets on at night. This month we celebrate two adoptions which have allowed us to welcome new intakes, with more coming in the next few days. Read the horse updates below to catch up!

Thank you to all who came to Hay Day and participated in the auction to support the rescue herd. It was a beautiful day with over 350 people enjoying the activities and meeting the horses. A special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the day a success! We are also happy to share we raised close to $30,000 to help care for the horses.

SteamMasters Charitable Golf Outing is on October 1 at Sonnenalp Golf Club, and teams are still available! This special event will benefit MVHR and two other local Nonprofits. Are you a golfer who would like to support three wonderful causes?!? Read on below to see how you can register your team!

Mark your calendars for two fun events in October, with "Beer for Horses" at Eagle River Brewing in Gypsum on Friday, Oct. 24 and MVHR's 2nd Annual Trick or Trot at the Ranch on Saturday, Oct. 25!

Sweet Pete at his new Home

New Intake: Bonnie

Run Free Now Sweet Gem

MVHR Horse Updates!

Another busy month with horses graduating from their Journey of Hope! Sweet Pete found his very own boy to go on adventures with. Hanson found his person and has been hitting the trail on these beautiful fall days. Cremello left for his adoption trial on the front range with a wonderful woman and Lucy started hers right here at the ranch and will be leaving for her new home in a few weeks.

All these adoptions allowed us to welcome two new horses into the quarantine barn. Bonnie, a gentle twenty something paint mare who needs to gain weight and Frankie, a sweet dun mare in her late teens with vision issues. They came together after their owner passed away. Both are now integrating into the herd and we look forward to helping and getting to know them. More intakes will arrive later this week to fill up quarantine once again!

We are sad to share that this past Monday we lost Gem, who is featured in the header picture of this newsletter. Gem was a 31 year old retired ranch horse, who spent her first few years with MVHR in foster care. After returning to the ranch, she enjoyed teaching groundwork classes. She truly was a Gem, with her beautiful eyes, and will be dearly missed by all. Run Free now Gem!

Interested in your next horse, or know someone who is? Amazing horses are waiting for their next adventures!

Come meet Lucky, Wilma, Barbie, Buggs, Juniper, Daci, Zephyr, Dancer, Cricket, Darcy, Ernie, Babe, Latigo, Huckleberry, Hammer, Rebel, Boomer, Big, Freddie, & Belle!

Adoptions make it possible for us to help more horses with next chapters of their own, and for you to have an amazing horse in your life!

Scarlet

Scarlet aka Ruby arrived in October 2020 at MVHR with two other horses all the way from New Mexico. Lily adopted Ruby and named her Scarlet in February 2021. Here is there story:

"The second I laid my eyes on Scarlet, I only caught a glimpse of the horse she would become, but there was a spark in her that I couldn’t ignore. That spark changed my life forever. From the beginning, I was determined to do everything with her; 4H, barrel racing, flag running, drill team, and more."

"Scarlet, being the horse she is, gave me every ounce of try she had. She never once backed down from what I asked of her, even when it was new or hard. Along the way, she wasn’t just a horse; she became my greatest teacher. I’ll never forget the day I won my first buckle on Scarlet. It wasn’t just about the win; it was about all the moments that led us there: the hard rides, the mistakes, the judgment, and the bond we built through it all. Every time I put that buckle on, I feel overwhelming gratitude. Gratitude that I picked her, but even more so that she picked me. Scarlet allowed me the space to make mistakes, to learn, to grow, not just as a rider, but as a person. And all the while, she was learning right alongside me."

"Every success I’ve had in recent years traces back to her. She shaped me into the rider and horsewoman I am today. She taught me patience, grit, humility, and the importance of giving second chances. Scarlet is living proof that a rescue horse can be just as successful, just as talented, and just as life-changing as any other horse. What makes her so special isn’t just the buckles, the patterns, or the performances. It’s the way she’s changed my outlook on horses and riding forever. She reminded me that horses are more than partners in the arena, they’re life partners. Scarlet is and always will be the horse that taught me what true connection with an animal feels like, and I will carry her lessons with me for the rest of my journey. I am so grateful that MVHR allowed me to share this incredible journey with such an incredible animal."

Thank you Lily for sharing this update and for adopting Scarlet in 2021! We are so proud of you both for all you have accomplished.
