Get Ready for Hay Day 2021!

Mark your calendars for the return of Hay Day! This FREE family-friendly open house will take place October 2nd from 1-4pm at our ranch in McCoy. Come meet the horses and learn what MVHR is all about. We'll have live music, kids games, kids activities and more! Snacks, soft drinks, and baked goods will be available for purchase. Don't forgot your mask. It's not always easy to maintain our distance in the barn or gathering around the horses, and we want to keep all the kids, adults, our staff and volunteers healthy and safe!

Our popular Online Hay Day Auction will also be back for its second year from September 27th - October 7th. From restaurant gift cards to hotel stays, food baskets and fun activities - guided fly fishing, anyone? - you won't want to miss the auction this year. Bidding will be open online for the duration of the auction and you will also have the option to bid on items in person on October 2nd at Hay Day! Watch for another email on September 27th for the link to start bidding online.

Equine Updates

Our favorite updates are adoption updates, and Amira is adopted! Just last month we asking for a sponsor for her, so it is exciting to see her find a forever home so quickly. We have many more wonderful candidates available for adoption. If you would like to give a forever home to one of our amazing Rescue horses, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.

Welcome new intake Penelope! This sweet 19-year-old mule is a beauty. We are getting to know her while we work on getting her more comfortable, as she shows signs of laminitis after a history of founder.

Salsa also returned to the rescue - fat and happy - after her time in foster. It's great to see her looking so healthy after arriving a few months ago in such poor condition. Interested in fostering a Rescue horse? Contact us at the email above.

In Memorium

We lost sweet Star last month. Her indomitable spirit had begun to fade, as the effort she was exerting to try to recover from laminitis was finally taking its toll. With the bone in her hoof threatening to break through, and not wanting her to suffer even more pain, Joel, Dr. Stocker, and Marleen surrounded her with love as she was gently laid to rest. This sweet horse will forever leave deep etchings on the hearts of all of those who met her, and we will be comforted by the knowledge that she is now galloping pain free through pastures of knee deep grass, alongside so many other wonderful horses who have gone before her.

Terrie Allon

Volunteer Spotlight: Terrie Allon

Terrie met MVHR program horse trainer, Kendra Scott, to train a different animal - her Border Collie - to herd sheep and cattle. She also met our former programs coordinator, Kensie Scott (Kendra’s daughter) in a lucky twist of fate. When Kendra and Kensie learned about Terrie’s extensive experience with horses, they invited her to come work at our Horse Heroes Summer Day Camp program this summer. Terrie accepted the offer, but opted to donate her time as a volunteer, rather than accepting a paycheck.

Doc

Horse of The Month: Doc

Doc is in his mid-teens and a well broke ranch/trail horse who is about as loveable and personable as they come. He has some navicular challenges, which are easily managed, and is a great horse for light riding! He's looking for an intermediate rider for weekend adventures…could you be his new person?

If you would like to adopt Doc, or learn more about our other adoptable horses, please contact us at info@mvhr.net.

Little Horse Friends

Program Updates

WE'RE HIRING! Programs Position

MVHR is seeking an individual or individual(s) interested in working with our programs to continue offering opportunities for people of all ages to connect with our horses. If you have a love of horses, and an interest in sharing and teaching, please reach out to our MVHR staff to learn more about these opportunities!

We have been so fortunate to have Kensie Redden as our Programs Coordinator for the past two years. Her experience with horses and background in education gave her the ability to connect with kids of all ages, and help them to connect with our Rescues. August was her last month at MVHR and we wish her and her growing family all the best!

Little Horse Friends & Mini Horse Heroes: Registration Opens September 1st

These two popular programs are back for the fall and registration opens today! Please visit the Programs page on our website to register for Mini Horse Heroes (ages 3-5) and email marleen@mvhr.net to sign up for Little Horse Friends (ages 4-7). Little Horse Friends will be available Friday and Saturday afternoons.

Horseback Riding Lesson Program: Call for Instructors

As we transition to fall, MVHR continues to work on developing an ongoing riding lesson program. Right now we are looking for instructors! If you have extensive horse experience and would be interested in sharing your knowledge with others, please email programs@mvhr.net. And if you'd be interested in lessons as they become available, please let us know that, too!
